I spray painted my hinges in ORB and started second guessing myself. I would love invisible hinges, but at this point I won't be able to do them. I also had brassy gold hinges to start with. Rather than paint them, I replaced them with the same hinge but in a cream finish. I wanted the hinges to less visible, but as others have stated, didn't want the chinzty painted hinge look.
The cream ones I purchased were very inexpensive. You can see from the pictures that they don't completely disappear but to me, I liked it better than having ORB hinges which I think I wouldn't have liked.
This is contrary to what the others are saying above Thank you for the visual Mamadadapaige! Your thoughts about not wanting your hinges to stand out where exactly why I was considering going with the cream hinges. If you're going to paint your old hinges and unless they're in really good shape- I'd replace them , I would say spray paint them or else go with the ORB. Mamadadapaige bought new cream hinges, so it's a different issue. Raehelen, My kitchen is nearly 20 yrs old, but the hinges are in great shape.
The hinges look great sprayed - no drips and they look like new. I would never attempt to hand paint hinges! I just started 2nd guessing myself whether I should have sprayed them with a cream color so they would disappear on the cabinets.
But at this point - they are now sprayed ORB and look good so that's what I'll go with. Can someone recommend a paint brand they used to spray their hinges? I tried it and the paint rubbed off when I opened the hinge. Indem Sie weiterhin auf der Website surfen bzw. Mehr erfahren. Ultimate Lighting Sale. Bathroom Vanity Sale. Try to keep the recommended distance on the package of the paint from the spray can to the hinges for optimal results. Spray the hinges in multiple light passes instead of one thick pass. This will ensure, that the paint is spread thin and evenly on the surface of the metal. Then let the hinges and the screws dry for a couple of hours. Then turn them carefully to the other side and repeat the process until the hinges and the screws are completely painted. The paint should stick very well to the metal surface and you should not be able to scratch the paint off easily.
Now simply reinstall the door and the hinges. Even though it should be fairly scratch-resistant you could still damage your paint job if you are not careful enough. This might not always be an option because especially in older houses the hinges might be completely different sized or made then new hinges but you might find something in your local hardware store.
More and more companies realize, that people want colored hinges, and especially owners or tenants of older holmes need older models so they started to pop up in local hardware stores all over the place. You could also buy newer correctly colored hinges and install them. But you may need to drill new holes in the wood and in the door which can lead to a nasty looking result if done incorrectly.
Position the can the recommended distance away from the hinges -- it varies among manufacturers. Spray a light coat of primer on the hinges and screw heads using steady, even sweeps. Make sure you spray the sides and edges. Shake the can frequently while you spray. Allow the primer to dry for the amount of time recommended by the manufacturer.
Apply a second coat of primer and allow it to dry completely. Turn the hinges over and repeat the process on the opposite side. Allow the primer to dry completely. Shake a can of spray paint for the full amount of time recommended by the manufacturer. Position the can the recommended distance from the hinges and the screws to spray a light coat of paint. Use steady side-to-side sweeping strokes and maintain a consistent distance from the hinges to ensure a uniform coat of paint.
