Tying it all together is a touching story that made us care deeply about these characters and their world almost instantly. Whether you yearned to become the Gray Fox of the Thieves Guild or Arch-Mage of the Arcane University, Oblivion is full of engrossing storylines to uncover and lose yourself in. Epic Games may not have invented the third-person cover shooting genre, but the original Gears of War revolutionized it in a stellar cooperative shooter that pushed the Xbox to its limits and kicked off another flagship Xbox game series. It's nowhere near the best Halo game , but as sci-fi FPS adventures go, Halo 5: Guardians makes for a solid system exclusive.
Halo 5's campaign is best enjoyed in online co-op supporting up to four players, though sadly there's no splitscreen option , and though the plot itself lacks sufficient oomph, the new focus on verticality in the level designs keeps the tense, tactical firefights feeling fresh. Meanwhile, the multiplayer is as exciting as ever, especially in the large-scale, multi-objective skirmishes of the player Warzone mode. As for all the other tried-and-true modes, you really can't go wrong with Halo multiplayer in any capacity.
It wouldn't be an Xbox games list without a Forza and the latest, Forza Horizon 4 is a worthy addition. Everything you love is back and this time placed in a beautiful, race ready rendition of England.
The location is the real star as ever, full of amazing landscapes to test your driving skills and impossible to hit magic sheep go on, just try.
Plus there are the exciting Showcase Events to really focus the experience and add thrills like the chasing the Flying Scotsman locomotive, and watching a giant hovercraft that smashing through country ahead.

Thankfully though, Psychonauts 2 was more than worth the wait, delivering a fantastically whimsical tour through various minds against a soundtrack that'll get your feet tapping. It's a fantastic platformer with levels that are so brilliantly designed that you'll be thinking about them for years to come. Possibly the biggest boon for Xbox One owners is the fact that Sea of Thieves is all theirs. Rare's emergent pirate adventure sees players sailing across the big blue, finding treasure where the X marks the spot, defeating hordes of skeletons and undead sea captains, and even collecting chickens and other items to sell to travelling merchants.
Of course, you're doing all that in between swigging grog, singing sea shanties and having a laugh with your mates. Because, if you know nothing about Sea of Thieves, all you need to know is that's it's the best game to play with your friends. Following straight on from the events of Gears of War 4 , Gears 5 — as it is now simply called — focuses on the story of Kait Diaz.
Struggling to comes to terms with the death of her mother, Kait is now focused on finding out more about her past after in her mother's last moments she's passed a necklace that bears the Locust Horde icon. All the old favourites are back too of course, from Marcus Fenix to his son JD, and it's all in for a brilliant Gears experience. It's not just limited to single-player, or brilliant co-op, story moments though, as there's an extensive multiplayer component to the game too, ranging from PvP frays to a glorious horde mode that literally keeps on giving.
This first entry to the gritty Xbox-exclusive franchise received a new coat of paint via Gears of War: Ultimate Edition , which boasted all-new textures, a higher frame rate and other appreciated visual flourishes.
The remaster was handled by new Gears of War developer The Coalition, who were careful to leave the basic bones of the game intact while just sprinkling in a tad more extra polish. Sunset Overdrive never takes itself too seriously, making it one of the freshest Xbox One exclusives. The result is a two-pronged storyline that sees you play as Chief and new character Commander Locke, adding extra texture to the Halo Universe from multiple perspectives. The classic Halo PVP you remember from the early games has successfully been recreated here, with such popular game modes as Capture the Flag and Team Death Match setting in the nostalgia across a new range of well-designed maps.
It may have released only recently but already has Gears 5 easily earned its place on our list. Not only does it double down on the familiar cover-shooting mechanics and gruesome kills fans of the series have come to expect, but it does this while also bundling in one of the most ambitious campaigns ever seen in a Gears of War game. Not only is this the best Gears of War game, but also one of the best Xbox One exclusive games.

Forza Horizon 4 is the latest to let you do so, setting you loose within an incredibly realistic rendition of the United Kingdom, complete with dynamic weather cycles that will see you driving through snow, sleet, rain and more.
Forza Horizon 4 leads the pack of best Xbox One exclusive games. All are brilliant in their own right, only further serving to highlight the eclectic library thriving on the Xbox platform Microsoft has slowly cultivated. Cuphead was that game for Xbox One, originally released in as a tribute to rubber hose animation and the run-and-gun games of yesteryear.
You play as the titular Cuphead who makes a deal with the devil, forced to take on a gauntlet of inventive bosses in order to repay your debt. Whether alone or with a friend, Cuphead just barely misses the top 10 list here. Hot off the heels of acclaimed Xbox exclusive Alan Wake, developer Remedy wowed Xbox players once again in with the reality-bending action of Quantum Break.
Seamlessly merging both game and TV by placing live-action episodes in between traditional gameplay segments, this is a third-person shooter with a difference.
