Where is leap castle

Home-cooked breakfast was delicious especially the homemade brown bread - all much better than mass-produced hotel fare. Ardmore house is a beautiful old country house. Chris, the landlady was an excellent host. Lovely fresh cooked breakfast. A stones throw from the pubs and cafes in Kinnity village. We stayed with Chris at this beautiful guest house. From the moment we arrived we were pleasantly greeted by the hostess who was more than welcoming.

Chris is From horse riding to walking trails through the Sleeve Bloom mountains there is also a Bike trail with different levels to suit all ages and fitness levels. We were able to hire bikes right from the house. All of this and much more is so well organised that we were all at ease from the get go. The lady of the house is a fantastic cook and I highly recommended her Homemade Brown bread!

She steered us in the right direction for sights we would be interested in and not too far away. The breakfasts are The cheese scones are a must! We were there for 3 nights and had a wonderful visit.

Chris is the definition of a hostess. She welcomes you into her home and offers you She shows you your room and tells you she will light a fire downstairs so you can drink your wine by it.

The bedroom was a giant hug! The fluffy bed smelled slightly of lavender Her breakfast is fresh off the farm or at least it tastes like it is. I could fan girl all day about this place. Thank you, Chris! The house is beautifully decorated with great rooms and an amazing garden. Chris is a fabulous host We enjoyed amazing breakfasts every morning. The local area too has so much to offer to walkers cyclists and traditional music lovers.

Loved it,. I stayed here overnight for an adventure race in the village. I had a warm Irish welcome on arrival with a cup of tea and a wee cake. My room was spotlessly clean and I had a great peaceful nights sleep. Breakfast was included and all freshly cooked. I had the porridge which was fab. Thanks Christina! We stayed here for two nights and wished we could have stayed longer. Chris was a fantastic host, offering us tea and homemade scones on arrival. The castle was then purchased by Sean and Anne Ryan.

It is still privately owned, with the Ryans continuing the restoration work on Leap Castle to this day. Leap Castle is now a private home so it is not possible to visit all of the structure. However, the Ryans sometimes grant permission to explore some of the upper floors that are still in ruins. The most interesting "attraction" to try to see at Leap Castle are the ghosts.

After the castle was destroyed in , repair work uncovered a hidden dungeon filled with corpses. It is thought that victims may have been tossed here through a hidden trapdoor.

An exact count of the bodies was never determined but it took three carts to take away all of the human bones. Supernatural hunters should keep an eye out for the many ghosts who are thought to haunt the property, including the spirits that owner Sean Ryan claims to have met personally. There is a lady in red who wanders the castle holding a dagger and crying for her murdered child, and the ghostly spirits of two little girls who are believed to have lived at Leap Castle in the s.

The pair live in the castle while also continuing to repair and restore the building. He claims that the spirits that he and his wife see really do exist, and is usually happy to share his knowledge of history and open the grounds to self-guided tours.

In order to visit Leap Castle, it is best to be in touch with Sean directly via email to confirm availability and the best time to stop by. Please note that there is a 6 euro donation requested in order to support the upkeep of the unique castle home. For more famously haunted castles, stop by Charleville Castle. The Gothic-style castle has a creepy past and is not far from Tullamore. Birr Castle is also located in the same county. While it does not have any ghost stories, it does have science exhibits for children.

The county town of Tullamore is most famous for its local whiskey, Tullamore Dew— a favorite Irish drink. A lot of guests to the castle have also felt her presence. The remarkable thing Sean told us was that this experience never seems to alarm his guests, rather they always remain very calm, something that surprises them!

Sean doesn't regard his home as haunted and, as far as he is concerned, the spirits he sees and hears have as much right to live there as he does. Sean is happy to continue to live alongside them as he has done since , when restoration on the castle began.
